Steve Johnston enjoys helping companies, causes, and candidates looking to employ smarter strategies online. Currently, he is a Google Account Executive who works with campaigns, committees, and other political organizations to drive the adoption of online advertising. Steve started working on federal political campaigns seventeen years ago…before he could even drive.
In addition to his digital marketing work for the House Majority Leader in Congress and a presidential campaign, Steve did product marketing for the Silicon Valley tech startup Quora and developed digital-focused business strategy for the national fast casual restaurant chain Sweetgreen.
As a member of the Professional Development faculty for The Ad Club, Steve taught “Social Media: Brand Lessons from the Political Battlefield” based on his insights gained running digital for the winning campaign in one of the closest United States Senate elections of 2014. He was named to Campaigns & Elections Magazine’s 2016 “Rising Stars” list that recognizes “young operatives who will shape the future of political campaigns.”
Steve is a frequent guest speaker at universities and panelist at tech conferences, and his writing on digital marketing has been published on various online platforms, including Forbes.com. He has a degree in Government from Harvard and an MBA in Marketing and Operations Management (joint major) and Entrepreneurial Management from Penn’s Wharton School.
