Peter Cherukuri serves as Executive Director of the Data Catalyst Institute, a global think tank focused on improving public policy and practices within the data economy. Much of his career has focused on connecting the mission of newsrooms with business and technology innovation in senior executive roles at major media companies such as POLITICO, Huffington Post and the Economist Group. Over the last few years, he has leveraged his years of media industry experience to advise and invest in the global startup community by co-founding a successful angel investment group, K Street Capital, and serving as President and Chief Innovation Officer of 1776 – a DC-based incubator for startups that disrupt highly regulated sectors.
Peter is deeply passionate about the intersection of public policy and data-driven innovation. Through the Data Catalyst Institute, he hopes to increase data regulation literacy among technologists, developers, corporate executives and policy makers.
A graduate of Colgate University, Peter has served on the board of trustees for the National Press Foundation, West Virginia University Reed College of Media, National League of Cities – Race Equality Leadership Initiative, Shakespeare Theater Company and the Close-up Foundation. Originally from Mingo County, West Virginia, Peter is based in Washington, DC.
